West Woodburn Shop
It was in 2013 that my partner and I took over the village shop at West Woodburn. We were run off our feet at first as there was so much to do. When the first VAT deadline arrived, it was a major panic. We got it in, in the nick of time, thanks to a helpful customer. After that I meticulously recorded every invoice then did lots of adding up, and at the end of 3 months, complicated sums, which I never really understood, were done then filed the VAT return online.
Nowadays it’s a lot easier. We collect the invoices, give them to Joanne, then a few days later she emails us 3 months accounts ready for the electronic VAT submission. At the end of the year the accountant gets 4 sets of those and that’s about it. All in all, this spares us a lot of bother. Joanne’s book-keeping fees are a small fraction of our total annual spend on professional services and well worth it for the time served. She has also helped us to keep abreast of changes e.g. Making TAX Digital, which we would have found very difficult. I can thoroughly recommend her service.
